I remember winter in the country;
doorframes thick with quiet frost
all around me

the dark, introspective
wind howling across the roads
binding even the forest of ancients
in an icy prison

I remember the flash of headlights in those
winter nights;
snowflakes like innumerable insects
in the glare

I remember the
sky stretching from end to end
clouds pensive, thoughtful, hanging
in a sea of cold

diamond snow dancing to an endless melody,
waiting for the winds to take them home

I remember those days
and even now, I miss them.
